Linton's Tyson Walker opened the bottom of the seventh with a doubles and later scored on an error to give Linton a stunning 3-2 win over Eastern Greene in the first round of the Class 2A Sullivan Sectional in baseball on Wednesday.

The Miners (10-10) reversed a regular season loss to the T-Birds (14-10) with a strong pitching effort from Blaike Husband and Russell Goodman, who got the win with three scoreless innings of relief.

Linton took a 2-0 lead after two innings off Will Inman before the T-Birds scored single runs in the third and fourth to tie it as Inman drove in Ty McKnight and Whitfield's RBI single scored Jacob Bellman. Inman went 5 1/3 innings before Gavin Whitfield took over, giving up only the unearned run after inheriting a bases loaded situation when he took over.

Eastern was limited to four hits as McKnight went 2-for-4. Linton had seven hits, two by Casen Goodman.

    Owen Valley's season ends

Indian Creek jumped all over Owen Valley starter Calvin Dean for nine runs in the top of the first inning and kept piling on to post a 17-3 thumping in five innings in the second semifinal of the Class 3A Edgewood Sectional.

The Braves (16-3), the WIC runner-ups, pounded out 19 hits with Colt DeHart going 3-for-4 with a home, two doubles, three runs scored and four RBI. Brock Bragg and Talan Steinway were each 3-for-4 and Carter Modlin tripled and drove in three runs.

A seven-run third provided more than enough cushion to end it early as freshman Nick Winters and Trevor Cravens combined on a three-hitter. OV ends 6-11.

Indian Creek will meet Northview (15-8) in the first semifinal on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., with Edgewood taking on South Vermillion in the nightcap.

The Knights toppled West Vigo, 7-5, in the other opening round game, going up 7-2 in the sixth and hanging on as the Vikings tried to rally in the seventh.

Caden Schrader got the win, going 6 1/3 with six strikeouts and five walks in a 122-pitch effort. Schrader and Peyton Lear also homered while Zac Buell and Lear each had two RBI.
