A community together for a moment of silence
The National Day of Prayer was commemorated across the commonwealth May 2, drawing together people of all denominations and inviting neighboring communities to unite in prayer. The event in Hazard was held at the amphitheater beside City Hall, led by Pastor Tim Reynolds of Hazard First Baptist and supported by a youth service team from Grant Career Center in Bethel, Ohio.

Appalachian Arts Alliance holds Derby Party
The Appalachian Arts Alliance held its fourth annual Derby Party on May 4, located at the Art Station in Downtown Hazard. The event lasting from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. featured an evening of extravagant outfits, music and a buffet catered by Big Blue Smokehouse. The event also featured returning fine artist and muralist Kelene Turner, who conducted a live painting during the party. A live auction was also conducted during the event seeing sponsors from many communities members and orginzations including East Kentucky Carpet, Hot Mess Express 606, Read Spotted Newt, The Goal Line, Hampton Inn, Bocook Engineering and many others.
