HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — One person was killed and four others were hurt Monday afternoon when a vehicle crashed and overturned into a ditch filled with water in Horry County.

Charleston Morris, 37, of Linden, North Carolina, was a passenger in the vehicle, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office. Morris was unrestrained and thrown from the vehicle. He died of multiple traumatic injuries at the scene.

The crash happened at about 12 p.m. along Highway 9 near the Waccamaw River in the Longs area, Horry County Fire Rescue said. One lane of Loris-bound traffic was blocked by the crash.

South Carolina Highway Patrol said one vehicle was involved in the crash.

The driver of a 2014 Kia Sorrento was traveling north on Highway 9 when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road and overturned.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
