Franklin County Pride draws crowds along parade route in Greenfield
GREENFIELD — Organizers estimated 2,500 people watched the Franklin County Pride parade Saturday in Greenfield. About 1,000 people representing schools, businesses, community groups, churches and government entities marched in the parade, which took a route down Federal Street, onto Main Street and then down Miles Street to Energy Park for a festival which organizers described as a “joyful, celebratory, family-friendly event.”
Amherst Story-slam held in observance of Juneteenth
AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – Juneteenth was observed across many spaces in western Massachusetts on Saturday evening. One such place was the town of Amherst where the 4th annual ‘Chains to Change’ was held at the Drake music venue. People gathered there to listen to a story slam, where local storytellers spoke about experiences within Black and Indigenous cultures.
Northampton teachers union is latest to vote no confidence in superintendent
The Northampton Association of School Employees, or NASE, voted no confidence in the district’s superintendent, Portia Bonner, amid an ongoing budget dispute. The union delivered a statement at a meeting of the city’s school committee on Thursday night, saying that 96%, or 348, members who voted in the poll had voted that they no longer had confidence in Bonner’s ability to lead the district. NASE President Andrea Egitto said the total represented an “overwhelming majority.”
