Smoke drifting down from eastern Canadian wildfires is responsible for hazy skies and poor air quality in our area Tuesday and Wednesday, the National Weather Service said, “due to the levels of fine particulates in the air.” More than 160 forest fires are currently active in Canada , some ignited by lightning strikes, according to NASA with dry and warm weather fueling the fires. MERCER COUNTY, NJ -- The Mercer County Improvement Authority (MCIA) will once again hold it's hazardous waste and electronics recycling collection day this weekend to safely dispose of unused and old items around the house. The MCIA Hazardous Waste and Electronics Recycling Collection Day will be held on Saturday, June 10 between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m at the John T. Dempster Fire School located at 350 Lawrence Station Road, Lawrenceville. Examples of hazardous materials accepted for safe disposal are: gasoline and motor oil, anti-freeze, pool chemicals, oil based paint and paint thinner, propane tanks, fire extinguishers, batteries and lightbulbs, and aerosol cans. Air conditioners, infectious waste, heating oil, explosives and munitions are among hazardous materials not accepted. Electronics accepted to recycle are: televisions, computers, laptops, cable and wires, microwaves, printers, telephones and cell phones. Household appliances are not accepted. A full list of materials that can and cannot be accepted is available at MCIA website http://www.mcianj.org/.
