Saline County sees higher than usual early voter turnout

This year's mid-term election has seen a surge of Kansas voters casting ballots in person in advance, including in Saline County. Wyandotte County in northeast Kansas reports early voting has nearly tripled. Advance voting began Oct. 19 and will continue through Nov. 2. The Kansas Secretary of State’s office reported on its website that 161,838 Kansans had voted in person and 42,317 had cast mail ballots as of Oct. 26, meaning 204,155 Kansans had voted in advance. The state had sent out 103,679 mail ballots, with 40.82% of those having been returned, that site said. Information on where to vote early in Saline County can be found at https://www.salinecountyks.gov/election . Saline turnout has been higher than usual, county clerk says Saline County Clerk Tammy Arnold said advance voting turnout was higher than usual last week, when 2,658 ballots were cast. More than 4,100 Saline County voters had cast early in-person ballots through Wednesday, Oct. 28, with less than a week left before the Nov. 3 general election. That figure comes from Kansas Secretary of State advance voting data, compiled by IKE Lab, a nonpartisan election data project at Wichita State University. WASHINGTON – Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth’s staff damaged a standing globe believed to have been used by Kansas-raised U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower while attempting to move the artifact into Hegseth’s office. A Pentagon official acknowledged the incident in a statement on Oct. 22, saying that “an accident occurred while staff were transporting a replica of the Eisenhower globe as part of its relocation.” “Accidents happen, we are grateful no one was harmed, and the globe is being repaired,” the official added. Hegseth was born on anniversary of D Day invasion Hegseth was born on June 6, 1980 , the 36th anniversary of the historic 1944 D Day invasion commanded by Eisenhower, who had an affinity for globes. A large globe is part of the "Waging Peace" exhibit at the Eisenhower Presidential Library, Museum & Boyhood Home, located on a 22-acre campus at 200 SE Fourth St. in Abilene. That tourist attraction educates visitors about the life and times of Eisenhower, who grew up in Abilene, served as a five-star general in the U.S. Army and commanded the Allied Expeditionary Force during World War II. Eisenhower later served as the 34th president of the United States from 1953 to 1961.
