Motorcyclist killed in collision with van on U.S. 183 in Leander; police seek information

A motorcyclist died in Leander after a collision with a van Monday night, police said Tuesday. The motorcyclist was 29-year-old Brendan Kayle Johnson of Leander, officils said in a news release.

The driver of the Chevrolet van, whose name has not been released, was cited for failure to yield right of way turning left, the release said. Police said they were notified about the collision at 6:12 p.m. Monday at U.S. 183 and Sheila Drive, according to the release.

The van driver pulled out of Sheila Drive to turn left on U.S. 183 and was struck by Johnson, who was riding a Honda motorcycle, police said. The motorcycle hit the rear of the van, the release said.

Witnesses, police officers and paramedics administered life-saving measures, but Johnson died at the scene, according to the release. It said the driver of the van stayed at the scene and spoke with police.

The Police Department's collision reconstruction team is continuing its investigation of the fatal crash, the release said. Witnesses or anyone with dash camera footage of the crash should contact Cpl. Gonzalez at 512-528-2800 or cgonzalez@leandertx.gov .
