Giants girls lead MRC standings after 1st event of the season

Monday evening, the Le Sueur-Henderson/Cleveland/Sibley East girls golf team opened the spring season as the host of the first Minnesota River Conference event of the season.

The Giants, aiming to repeat as conference champions, lead after the first event having combined to tally a score of 232 in the nine-hole event. Tri-City United, with three current qualifying varsity competitors, sits in fourth place after the event.

Allison Cink of LS-H/C/SE, currently leads the field with a first-round score of 45 that featured a pair of par makes on No. 4 and No. 9. Second for the Giants is Anna Kawatski who posted a round of 59 which featured a par on No. 6 and puts her firmly in sixth overall place.

In seventh is Natalie Haemig of the Giants who scored 63, including a birdie on the par three No. 17, while Maya Lassiterand Morgan Haggenmiller are tied in 10th with a score of 65.

TCU’s top golfer after the first event is Neysa Anderson who has a score of 69 while Payton Huffman holds a score of 71.

LS-H/C/SE’s final varsity competitor Addison Fahey finished with a round of 72 while the Titan’s final golfer, Morgan Gjerstad, finished with a round of 74.

The boys event which was rained out Tuesday, has been tentatively scheduled for April 23, with starting time set for 4 p.m.

The next event for both the Giants and Titans boys and girls teams will be Thursday, April 18 at the New Ulm Country Club. Thursday’s event is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
