KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF) — Kansas City police say all roads have reopened following a deadly shooting on I-670 this (WED) morning. Around 5:40 am, police were called to an injury crash in the westbound lanes of I-670 near Broadway Boulevard. When officers arrived, they discovered a woman with gunshot wounds inside the vehicle. WDAF TV reports that emergency crews took the woman to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead. The shooting caused emergency crews to shut down several portions of I-670 for roughly three hours, leading to several sections of traffic backup along the interstate. Police have not yet identified the victim. No additional information has been released on a potential suspect or what led up to the shooting.
LKPD looking for suspect in overnight homicide
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The Lawrence Police Department (LKPD) confirmed one person is dead after an overnight shooting near the area of 24th and Cedarwood. LKPD said several 911 calls were made just after 1:00 a.m. reporting the sound of gunshots. When officers got on-scene, they talked with witnesses but did not find a victim.
Judge hears evidence in teen’s motion for immunity in shooting death of Lawrence boy, 14
A 14-year-old boy was nearly 200 feet away from his alleged shooter, a judge heard Friday, though the defendant charged with his murder is claiming self-defense. Derrick Reed, 17, of Lawrence, is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 14-year-old Kamarjay Shaw. Shaw was shot on March 18 in the 1300 block of Maple Lane in eastern Lawrence, and he died at the hospital shortly thereafter.

A Kansas police department is asking for the community's help with finding a missing teenager. Karizma Shay, 17, was last seen on May 26, 2023, in Wellsville - a small town between Emporia and Kansas City. Karizma left the house to go to the Wellsville City Park, she was observed there shortly after, the police department shared on Facebook this weekend.
Advocates invite Lawrence community to Wear Orange event to raise awareness of gun violence
Volunteers with Moms Demand Action are inviting the Lawrence community to an event Saturday to raise awareness and take a stand against gun violence. Wear Orange began in 2015 with a group of teenagers in Chicago who wanted to honor their friend, Hadiya Pendleton, who was killed in a shooting on a playground at age 15. Orange was one of Hadiya’s favorite colors, and it’s the color hunters wear in the woods for safety.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Glacier National Park has released the identity of the 28-year-old woman who died after falling to her death from an off-trail overhang. Atheer Abdulrahman S. Alquahtani from Saudi Arabia was a graduate student who had just finished the first year of her master’s program at The University of Kansas. Friends say Alquahtani was traveling to celebrate.
