1803 New Market wedding re-enacted
A wedding re-enactment from 1803 played out Saturday before the Highland County Historical Society opened its new bridal exhibit at the Highland House Museum in Hillsboro. The museum exhibit features at least 41 wedding gowns dating back possibly 200 or more years ago to 1969, as well as photos, a corsage from a 1945 wedding, gift book lists, marriage certificates and more. The display will be open from 1-4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays at the museum through July 27. Groups wanting to tour the museum at other times can call Vicki Knauff, the museum director, at 937-393-3392.

Ohio girl drowns trying to save younger sister from hotel pool
WHEELERSBURG, Ohio (KDKA) -- An 11-year-old girl drowned trying to save her younger sister from a swimming pool at an Ohio hotel. The Scioto County Sherriff's Office said the sisters were attending a pool party at the Quality Inn in Wheelersburg, Ohio, on Sunday evening when the 9-year-old fell in. The older sister, Mackenzie Cornell, tried to pull her out but went under as well, the sheriff said.First responders got a call from the Quality Inn shortly after 6 p.m. saying people were performing CPR on the girls. Before the rescue squad arrived, the sheriff said one of the girls had been resuscitated and was taken to the hospital. EMS took over CPR on the other girl, and the sheriff said she was also taken to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The sheriff's office's initial investigation revealed the two children were at a pool party when they went underwater. They were discovered later and given CPR while 911 was called. The Scioto County sheriff said the investigation is still ongoing and they're asking anyone with more information to call them.

Ross County – One Person Dies in Rollover Crash on US-23
Chillicothe – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality on US 23 at State Route 207. On June 7, 2024, at approximately 1355 hours, a 2005 Honda Pilot driven by Alexander Pollard, age 22 of West Union, Ohio and his passenger Nicholas Fisher, age 23 of Peebles, Ohio was traveling south on US 23. Their vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway, through the median, and traveled into the north bound lanes of US 23. The vehicle began to overturn ejecting Alexander Pollard. It continued off the left side of the roadway where it came to rest under the State Route 207 overpass. Mr. Pollard succumbed to his injuries as a result of the crash. Mr. Fisher was transported to Adena Regional Medical Center by Union Township Emergency Medical Services for serious injuries. US 23 was shut down for approximately 3 hours.
Area ODOT road projects
Work has begun as of June 1 for a culvert and bridge replacement project between Piketon Road and Graham Lane. Work will occur daily for this construction. Ohio 335 will be closed for the duration of the project; traffic will be detoured via Shumway Hollow Road to Ohio 823 to U.S. 23 to Ohio 32.
