Who Should Be the WyoPreps Athletes of the Week? [POLLS]
Student-athletes in soccer, track, and golf have been chosen as the finalists for the WyoPreps Athlete of the Week honors, presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming. This week’s poll allows you to vote for one of seven girls and six boys. After receiving nominations and considering the best performances from last week, these are the finalists. These nominees performed well during competitions between May 6 and May 11, 2024. Nominations for this week are closed!
LHS girls soccer wins regional championship, earns top seed at state
CHEYENNE —The Laramie girls soccer team will represent the East Conference as the No. 1-seed at next week's Class 4A state tournament in Rock Springs. The Plainsmen dictated play from start to finish against Thunder Basin leading to a 2-0 win Saturday at Okie Blanchard Stadium. With the win, Laramie is now both regional and conference champions.
East Softball closes regular season on a high note against Laramie
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Lady T-Birds regular season came to a close on Thursday as they hosted the Lady Plainsmen for a doubleheader. There was no scoring in the conference game until the bottom of the third, but East exploded for six runs to take a commanding lead. Gracie Oswald put an exclamation point on the frame with a three run homer as the final scoring play of the inning. Laramie answered back with three runs between the fourth and fifth, but the Lady T-Birds slammed the door shut with a seven run fifth to end the game at 14-3. Oswald finished 2-3 with the homer, a triple, four RBIs, and two runs scored. McKenzie Millar chipped in with a 2-4 outing at the plate while driving in four runs, and Madelyn Artery was a perfect 3-3 with an RBI and three runs. Lillian Vallejo was effective everywhere; she won and went the distance in the pitcher’s circle with six strikeouts, and was 3-4 with three RBIs and a run at the plate. Paige Kuhn paced the Lady Plainsmen offensively with a 2-3 showing, adding an RBI and run each.

Official visit primer: Illini hosting Wyoming DL transfer Gavin Meyer
Wyoming transfer defensive lineman Gavin Meyer will start an official visit to Illinois on Tuesday. The 6-foot-4, 285-pound defensive lineman — who has one season of eligibility remaining — was a two-year high-impact rotation player at Wyoming. Last season, he had 26 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 18 pressures with a 78.4 PFF grade. In 2022, Meyer had 40 tackles, 5.0 TFLs, 4.0 sacks and 31 pressures with a 62.5 PFF grade.
