Farm-to-table restaurant Communal coming to Salt Lake City

Communal, a farm-to-table restaurant and Provo staple, is expanding to Salt Lake City. Driving the news: Owners Kevin and Tessa Santiago revealed plans for the new restaurant in a recent social media post . The restaurant will be at the Twenty Ones Apartments complex in Sugar House. Dig in: The Provo menu includes funeral potato croquettes, gumbo-style chicken, wagyu picanha frites and more. Catch up quick: Communal opened in downtown Provo in 2009 to wide acclaim for its use of fresh ingredients and family-style seating. The original owners, chefs Joseph McRae and Colton Soelberg, sold the business to the Santiagos in 2019. 💭 My thought bubble: I visited Communal for the first time last year and immediately kicked myself for not going sooner. What we're watching: An opening date is expected to be announced soon.

She says it’s really easy to prepare for your next fall event. She says first drizzle your cup with caramel then fill the glass with ice about half way. Then comes the Mountain Dew. Fill half way. Driving the news: You must — I repeat, must — pick up dinner at Big South soul food for a taste of home that transcends geography. The vibe: The brick-and-mortar location at 900 East and 2100 South has a shifting menu of treats from Big South's popular food truck, like oxtail, meat loaf, catfish, collard greens, cornbread and yams. There's a bit of seating, but most customers were ordering takeout when I visited. Best bites: Every single dish my family tried was fantastic, but we each had a different favorite. Mine was the (perfect) catfish, my husband loved the BBQ ribs, and my kid singled out the yams. 💭 My thought bubble: It's like all of my memories from Thanksgiving, Sunday dinners and the Fourth of July fused into a bite.
