Art Beat review: ‘The Savannah Sipping Society’ will leave you in stitches
May 3-19, Wade James Theatre, 950 Main St., Edmonds. In this delightful, laugh-a-minute comedy, four unique Southern women — all grappling with the monotony of their day-to-day lives — are drawn together by fate and an impromptu happy hour and decide it’s high time to reclaim the enthusiasm for life they’ve lost through the years. Over six months, filled with laughter, hilarious misadventures and the occasional liquid refreshment, these middle-aged women successfully bond and find the confidence to jumpstart their new lives. Together, they discover lasting friendships and a renewed determination to live in the moment—and most importantly, realize it’s never too late to make new old friends.

Artist of the Week: Alex Johnston
Alex Johnston is an Everett-based folktronica singer-songwriter. Seattle Refined: How long have you been writing/performing?. Johnston: I have been recording and releasing music since graduating college in 2015. My first EPs were released in 2016 and recorded at home. It feels like lifetimes ago because I've changed so much personally and have released seven albums, four ambient collections, a handful of singles and even a Christmas album. It's interesting to have so much music out in the world as a live journal documenting my personal growth and art journey. Noah Gunderson is a Seattle artist where you can see that journey transparently taking place, and I love that evolution of a person paired with their art. With the way life was, I performed mostly around Everett, but recently, I have been enjoying connecting more with the Seattle music community. Live performances recently have included playing masked, shedding layers of my outfit, alternating between playing guitar, my keyboard, working synth loops, painting while singing and walking off stage and leaving the venue during my last song.
Late S'Klallam artist leaves legacy of far-reaching and celebrated 'Geek Salish' style
The proud and vibrant artwork of Jeffrey Veregge blended superheroes and science fiction with Native Salish art styles in a groundbreaking Marvel Comics series, landed in the the Smithsonian and even on a mural at newly opened Climate Pledge Arena. The Port Gamble S’Klallam tribal member, as known in his community for his kindness as much as the "Salish Geek" style he coined, died April 12, at age 50.
