A new Oklahoma oil pollution investigation has raised questions about how state regulators responded to years of reported wastewater problems involving Citation Oil & Gas in southern Oklahoma. Published October 27 by ProPublica and The Frontier, the investigation found the company was named in more than 1,000 state incident reports and other alleged rule violations over the past decade. Despite repeated complaints and recommendations from regulatory staff, the journalists found no record of a completed state enforcement case or fine against the company.

Two rural communities in southeast Oklahoma are under a boil order after the Department of Environmental Quality found unsafe drinking water. The DEQ issued the order for the Clarita Olney PWS located in Coal County. The Public Water Supply is asked to inform users of its drinking water to use water that has been brought to a full, rolling boil for at least one minute, bottled water, or water from another acceptable source for consumption, use in food preparation, dishwashing and brushing teeth.
