INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) - Community members and grieving loved ones gathered in Independence to remember the lives of those lost in the line of duty. The Independence Police Department held a somber memorial on Thursday, May 16, to honor the lives of those lost in the line of duty during National Police Week.
Local nonprofit thankful for community support after truck stolen
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Flourish Furniture Bank is a one-of-a-kind nonprofit in Grandview. “Flourish is the only furniture bank in the Kansas City metropolitan area and also in the state of Kansas,” said Amy Cox, its Executive Director. “A furniture bank basically collects furniture from the community, as well as home essentials, so anything from linens and towels to dishes and small appliances. Then we provide those things to families who have been unhoused for one reason or another.”

LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. (KCTV) - A school nutrition employee from Lee’s Summit has been honored with a national award for her dedication to the job and kindness to students. The national nonprofit School Nutrition Association announced on Wednesday, May 15, that Sheena Boyd, production staff professional for Cedar Creek Elementary School, in Lee’s Summit, has been awarded the Mountain Plains region Employee of the Year.
Lee’s Summit considers adding 2 holidays to city calendar

Members of the Lee’s Summit City Council plan to consider recognizing Juneteenth and Veterans Day as official city holidays. The idea will be discussed during the council meeting Tuesday evening.
