Sophia Guerrero scored her first goal of the season and Addie Ninneman added a late goal as Lake Mills topped host Lakeside Lutheran 2-0 in Capitol Conference girls soccer on Tuesday, May 14.

Guerrero converted off of a corner kick taken by Mollie Cooper in the 28th minute.

Ninneman doubled the L-Cats’ lead with a 78th-minute goal, also assisted by Cooper.

Milan Fullerton stopped three shots in her latest clean sheet for the L-Cats (13-2, 4-1 in conference), who have won eight straight games including seven via shut out.

“Tonight was a great soccer match between two teams willing to battle all night,” Lake Mills girls soccer coach Jeff Hegstrom said. “We were very pleased with our connecting and build up in our attack, but credit to Ella Ristow, Maria Vik and the Lakeside backline, because they made it difficult to score and finish all night long.

“Sophia’s goal off Mollie’s corner and Addie’s finish off Mollie’s slotted ball were needed in this one. To post another shutout tonight was impressive, considering what Lakeside was able to generate. We’re very proud of our squad tonight.”

Maria Vik made nine saves for the Warriors (5-8-2, 3-2-1 in conference).

“Lake Mills was a tough matchup for us tonight,” Lakeside girls soccer coach Hannah Uher said. “Nonetheless, we put up a tough fight of our own and kept the game close.

“Our backline demonstrated great heart and resilience in the face of a disciplined and well-coached L-Cat team. We’re proud of our girls for finishing the conference season with the best ever conference record in program history.”
