EDITOR’S NOTE: These results do not include 381 absentee by mail voting. These were the total number of votes received by 12:30 a.m. ET, at the time of print. Final results can be found on lagrangenews.com as they become available.

Incumbent Morris Jones has defeated challenger Phil Nations by a wide margin, 1719 votes to 424 votes with 381 absentees by mail ballots still outstanding to win the Republican nomination for the District 4 Commissioner seat, which covers north LaGrange and the north-central unincorporated area of Troup County.

“I’m blessed and very appreciate of everybody that supported me in this election,” Jones said.

Jones currently will be running unopposed in November. Jones is seeking his seventh term having been first elected to the position in 2001.

“The number one thing you have to do is you have to stand behind your district on what your district wants to see done. And go forward with that. And then everything else will fall in place,” Jones said.

Nations previously ran unsuccessfully for the Troup County Board of Commission chairman position.
