'The beautiful coverup': How Torrington turned tragedy into triumph
TORRINGTON – For many years, the city of Torrington and the Torrington Rotary Club have joined together to turn a series of tragic events into a special project which many of us in the community enjoy today. Phase one of the program began in 1971 when the project, “The Beautiful Cover-up,” was promoted as community action to “do something” about the 13-block-long open irrigation ditch which ran through the residential portion of town, and further plans for improvements still continue today. ...

Soccer Game Recap: Gering Takes a Loss
Thursday just wasn't the day for Gering's offense. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Douglas Bearcats on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Gering can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' soccer rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 60th in Nebraska, while Douglas is ranked ninth in Wyoming).
Lady Cyclones snag second, Cyclones place fifth at Lusk
The Southeast High School Cyclones and Lady Cyclones battled gusty winds, cold temperatures and tough opponents at the 2024 Dennis Zowada Invitational hosted by Niobrary County High School on Saturday. The Lady Cyclones captured second place as a team, posting 114 points. The Cyclones took sixth place with 52 points.
Edward Gerald Schmick
TORRINGTON – A celebration of life for Edward “Ed” Gerald Schmick, 87, will be held 10 a.m. Saturday April 27, 2024, at the First Congregational Church with Reverend Matt Gordon officiating. Ed passed away peacefully Monday April 22, 2024 at Torrington Community Hospital with his family by his side and cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers the family requested that donations be made to the First Congregational Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and condolences may be sent to www.colyerfuneralhome.com.
