A wet and stormy Thursday

WHAT WE ARE TRACKING: Wet and stormy conditions are on tap for Thursday and Thursday night before dry weather briefly returns on Friday.

NEXT 24 HRS: Cloud cover increases and lower after midnight as temperatures fall into the middle 40s to lower 50s. Showers spread across the area late tonight, mainly south of La Crosse. More showers are expected by the morning commute with steady light to moderate rain likely from 8 AM until 1 PM. There is likely a break in the precipitation during the afternoon, with showers and thunderstorms redeveloping towards the evening, mainly south/east of La Crosse. Temperatures will rise into the middle to upper 50s for most locations.

LOOKING AHEAD: Any remaining showers or thunderstorms quickly taper off early Thursday evening, setting up a dry and seasonable Friday. Another weak system brings some showers to the area on Saturday before dry and milder conditions return on Sunday. A robust and more extensive system brings showers and thunderstorms to the region late Monday through Wednesday. Although high temperatures start above average for the first half of the work week, they will drop to average or slightly below for the second half and the following weekend. Rain chances may return by the weekend.
