Property cleared for upcoming Wawa on 17th Street
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - As of June 13, the property has been cleared for the Wawa set to be built at the corner of S. 17th Street and Wellington Avenue. The proposal for the Wawa was approved by the Wilmington City Council in May of 2023, and it will be on the property formerly occupied by an old Pizza Hut and a PT’s Olde Fashioned Grille.

New Hanover County searching for volunteers to deliver meals to older adults
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - New Hanover County is inviting the community to volunteer for the Senior Resource Center’s Home Delivered Meals Program. The program serves over 650 adults ages 60 and older who face food insecurity and isolation. Downtown Wilmington business owner fined for holding concerts without a permit
A downtown Wilmington business owner is vowing to continue a free weekly concert series despite drawing fines from the city of Wilmington. According to a copy of a civil citation, Joe Apkarian, owner of The Eagle's Dare bar and event space at 420 N. Third St., shared with the StarNews, his business was cited for holding "free outdoor concert(s)" May 17 and 31 without obtaining the proper permits. The citation notes that a $300 fine included $100 for the first offense and $200 for the second, with additional $200 fines "for every day that the property is in violation."
