Interstate 81 Shutdown near Frackville Due to Crash

Interstate 81 northbound was closed at the Frackville exit as of 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2026 , following a crash near mile marker 125. The crash occurred around 12:45 p.m. in the northbound lanes. Medical Helicopter Requested As emergency personnel arrived, a medical helicopter was requested for at least one person who was reportedly ejected from a vehicle. Traffic Diverted at Frackville Exit Just after 1 p.m., fire police were requested to divert all northbound traffic off Interstate 81 at the Frackville exit. Additional details will be reported as information becomes available. UPDATE (1:35pm) Southbound Lanes closed at Mahanoy City Exit Fire police have also been requested to shutdown the southbound lanes at the Mahanoy City exit. Survey work brings flagging to Montgomery River Bridge

Montgomery, Pa. — Drivers should expect single-lane conditions with flagging on the Montgomery River Bridge the week of Monday, Oct. 26, as crews survey the bridge deck, PennDOT says. The bridge carries Route 54 over the West Branch Susquehanna River in Montgomery Borough, Lycoming County. Along with surveying the deck, the contractor will perform miscellaneous construction activities. The lane restrictions will be in place during daylight hours. "Drivers should be alert, slow down, expect delays in travel, and drive with caution," PennDOT said. J.D. Eckman, Inc. is the prime contractor for the $1.9 million bridge rehabilitation project. Work includes removing a portion of the existing concrete deck overlay and replacing it with a new concrete overlay, curb repairs, replacing expansion joint seal materials to protect the ends of the existing steel beams from water and salt, minor bridge approach roadway work, and line painting. Near record-high diesel prices have some school bus drivers questioning how long the wheels will still go 'round. Diesel costs almost $3 more per gallon than one year ago. That means it costs $36 more for fuel to drive 100 miles than it did last year. Buses travel about seven miles on one gallon of diesel.
