RENO COUNTY — The entrance ramp from Fourth Avenue to southbound K-14 is expected to close Monday, May 13, and reopen around 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 15. The exit ramp from southbound K-14 to Sixth Avenue is expected to close Wednesday, May 15, and reopen around 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18.
Local driver uses bus for kids in need
NICKERSON, Kan. — There's a magic bus in Reno County but it's not called the Magic School Bus with a red haired Ms. Frizzle behind the wheel. This bus is called the Magic Clothes Bus. Melissa Kuhns, a bus driver for Nickerson USD 309, started the nonprofit with her family in 2020. The bus travels to numerous public events and helps those in need.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The BrightHouse Parenting Time Center offers supervised visits and monitored exchanges in a safe neutral environment for families in Reno and surrounding counties. Two Hugoton, Kansas women were recently brutally murdered in a crime that may have been prevented with a safe supervised visit site. A 5th person has been arrested in the tragic murders of Veronica Butler and Jilian Kelley. It has been revealed that (1) the case stemmed from a bitter custody battle, (2) the mother, Veronica Butler, had off-site supervised visits and was traveling to exchange her children, and (3) Jilian Kelley was a court ordered supervisor for the family. These revelations underscore the significance of supervised visitation and monitored exchange services in ensuring the safety and well-being of children and families in contentious custody situations.
