KING — Senior Olivia Goforth has collected five hits over the last two games, including her 100th career hit, and helped West Stokes advance to the third round of the NCHSAA 2A State Playoffs with a 10-0 victory over Providence Grove in the first round and an 11-1 win over East Gaston in the second round.

The Wildcats took care of business over Providence Grove in their first game when Sydney Holder pitched her third shutout of the season against the Patriots. She pitched five innings giving up three hits and two walks.

Goforth collected three hits and scored three runs. Holder went 2-for-3 with 2RBIs, and Alyssa Sparks, Ashlynn Cox, Baylee Tilley, and Reese Hall had one hit each. Sparks knocked in two runs and collected her team-leading 30th RBI on the season.

The Wildcats jumped out to a three-run lead in the first inning over East Gaston when Goforth reached on a bunt single, move to second base on Haley Yates single to left field, and then both runners scored when Holder smashed her first homerun of the season.

The Warriors cut West’s lead to 3-1 in the top of the second, but the Wildcats bounced back with four runs in the third, one more in the fourth, and finished the 10-run mercy rule game with three runs in the sixth inning.

Holder gave up four hits, an earned run, a walk, and four strikeouts in six innings of work.

Yates led the Cats with three hits, Goforth, Holder, and Cameron Bowles had two hits each, and Cox, Tilley, Hall, and Halo Akers one a piece.

Holder recorded 3RBIs, Tilley two, and Yates, Sparks, Cox, and Hall one each.

The No. 6 seeded Wildcats improved to 19-4 overall and advanced to the third round to play No. 3 Maiden. The teams were set to play on Tuesday, but the game has been moved to Wednesday due to inclement weather.
