Our Hospital Key West (OHKW) is a citizens advocacy group composed of Key West residents. Its advisers, members and supporters come from all walks of life, including physicians, nurses, hospital administrators, past and present Lower Keys Medical Center employees, attorneys, city and county workers, business owners, hospitality workers, retirees and many other backgrounds. Our mission is to seek the best possible levels of care at our public hospital.
KEY LARGO CANAL RESTORATION RESTORES WATER QUALITY
Monroe County Mayor Holly Merrill Raschein recently visited Canal 90 between Hilson and Ivanhoe courts in Key Largo to view the canal restoration efforts. Restoration work includes backfilling the canal. This raises the canal bottom to an optimum depth of about 7 feet to allow maximum flushing and tidal flow in and out of the canal. This technique will increase the levels of dissolved oxygen throughout the canal. The work is funded by a Florida Department of Environmental Protection Keys Stewardship grant to the county.

Nearly $1 million worth of cocaine washes up along Florida Keys
MIAMI - Nearly $1 million worth of cocaine was found by a beachgoer washed up along the Florida Keys. The beachgoer who discovered the suspicious package notified authorities about his find. U.S. Border Patrol agents recovered the package, which contained 65 pounds of cocaine.According to authorities, the estimated street value of the illicit drug is approximately $1 million.The last time a package containing cocaine washed up on a Florida beach, was back in October of 2023, when a package containing 67 pounds of the white stuff washed up along Daytona Beach.
