A Kennesaw man was arrested after bringing a loaded gun to a Cobb County high school.
Theodore Davidson, 18, was arrested Saturday at Kennesaw Mountain High School for possessing a weapon on school property, according to his arrest warrant.
Davidson brought the sawed-off rifle with a loaded magazine and a round in the chamber to Kennesaw Mountainfest, which was hosted at the school Saturday. According to Davidson’s booking records, he was arrested on school grounds just after 1 p.m.
At the time of his arrest, Davidson told officers the rifle belonged to his father, who told him to take possession of the weapon on Friday, according to the arrest warrant.
Cobb Board of Education Chairman Randy Scamihorn said Davidson was not a student enrolled in the district.
“As I understand he got in an argument with possibly his former girlfriend or girlfriend, but that’s second-hand knowledge,” Scamihorn told the MDJ.
Scamihorn added the event was not a school- or district-sanctioned function, and was simply held on the campus. Still, Scamihorn said, the safety of anyone on Cobb School District campuses is paramount.
“I wish with all my heart that I could promise 100% safety for all of us. But unfortunately, that’s not the world we live in. However, we have layered safety protection and procedures and so far, it’s worked very well. We are going to try to stay ahead of any bad guys and we are going to try to do everything worldly possible to keep us all as safe as possible,” Scamihorn said.
In a Wednesday email to the MDJ, district spokesperson Nan Kiel expressed gratitude to the officers involved in apprehending Davidson.
“Once again, we are incredibly thankful for police officers who keep our schools, and community, safe every day. On Saturday, officers responded quickly to an adult community member who had a gun at a festival hosted at Kennesaw Mountain High School. Thanks to their expertise, hundreds of community members enjoyed a safe Saturday afternoon supporting our schools,” Kiel wrote.
Davidson has been charged with two felonies and a misdemeanor, and is booked in Cobb jail without bond.
