KENNARD, Ind. — A Kennard woman was charged with arson after she reportedly set fire to her boyfriend’s house.

According to court documents filed earlier this month in Henry County, 35-year-old Amanda Blevins was charged with arson, a Level 4 felony.

On April 24, deputies with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, as well other first responders, were called to a home in Kennard after it was reported that a woman would not leave a home that was on fire.

When deputies arrived, the release said they spoke with the boyfriend of Blevins, who claimed that she set his house on fire while he was gone. The boyfriend reportedly called dispatch and told them that Blevins was refusing to come out of the home when it was on fire.

The documents said that Blevins eventually left the home. In an interview with deputies on scene, officials said that she “was stumbling and had a heavy odor of alcohol emitting from her breath.” Blevins told deputies that she and her boyfriend had been fighting.

Officials said that Blevins claimed that the boyfriend set the fire and she did not do anything. Blevins reportedly later told deputies that she was the only one in the house, along with her dog.

When deputies asked Blevins why she did not leave the house when it was on fire, “she advised that she did not know it was on fire.” The documents said that Blevins blew a .226 through a portable breath test later that evening. The state’s legal limit is reported as .08.

In an interview with the boyfriend, the documents said that Blevins had “threatened to set the house on fire in the past.”

According to court documents, Blevins’ pretrial conference is scheduled for July 11 and her jury trial is scheduled for Aug. 12.
