Traffic Stop in Buck Swamp Area Leads to Drug Arrests
On May 10, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were patrolling the Buck Swamp area when they conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. During the stop, a search was conducted and illegal narcotics were located. Both occupants, Luis Angel Arandas, 26, Goldsboro, and Blanca Xochilt Paullada, 40, Goldsboro, were arrested and taken before a magistrate judge.

A Duplin County man is charged with insurance and car title application fraud, after North Carolina’s insurance commissioner says the Wilson car dealer submitted a forged signature to the DMV following an insurance claim concerning a Jeep that was titled under the name of a person whose identity was stolen.
Temporary stop to divestiture of F-15E combat squadron at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base
The Air Force has temporarily been stopped from divesting an F-15E combat squadron at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro. In March, the Air Force announced its plans to divest 26 aircraft at the base, eliminating about 520 jobs from Wayne County, one of the most economically distressed counties in the state.

Two teens and a young adult injured in Kinston shooting
KINSTON, Lenoir County — On Monday, May 13, 2024 at approximately 9:20 p.m., members of the Kinston Police Department responded to a report of individuals that have been shot near the 300 block of S. Davis St. in Richard Green Housing Complex. Upon arrival officers located two female juveniles ages 13 and 15 suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to ECU Medical Center, where they remain in stable condition. While detectives were at the scene investigating, they were called to UNC Lenoir Hospital, where a third victim had arrived and was seeking treatment. The third victim was identified as Rayshon Aytch, 20, of Kinston.
Duplin County science teacher receives NC State's Kenan Fellowship Award
STEAMA coordinator and science teacher at Duplin Early College Garrick Purdie has been named a 2024-25 Kenan Fellow. The search continues for a Lenoir County teen who disappeared 23 years ago, and investigators say the believe they know who took the then-16-year-old from her mother’s home. Retired Lenoir County Sheriff Chris Hill, who stepped down from the top job in 2014, has been working cold cases for the county and he said Timika Pidgen’s is one of those cases.
