LaSalle Parish residents voice concerns over proposal for 4-day school week
JENA, La. (KNOE) - LaSalle Parish schools are almost done receiving feedback from the community about a possible 4-day school week calendar for the 2023-2024 school year. If the proposal becomes approved by the LaSalle Parish School System, some residents believe it would cause a barrier to academics and home life by removing the current 5-day school week calendar.
Man Arrested in Ferriday Sting
A man from Caldwell Parish is accused of traveling to Ferriday to meet a minor for a sexual trip to Lafayette. The investigation began earlier in the week, when the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Cyber Crime Unit got word from a parent about an adult man having inappropriate chats with their child on the socials. Deputies then took over the chat with 39-year old John P. Swett of Columbia, Louisiana. He made plans to meet up with the child in Ferriday yesterday and travel to Lafayette for several days. When he arrived at the meeting spot, Swett was arrested. He’s charged with indecent behavior with juveniles and computer-aided solicitation of a minor.

It didn’t take long for freshman Taylor Huddleston of Quitman High School to establish himself as the premier long distance runner in Jackson Parish. Optimum announces internet service upgrade for Jackson Parish cities
JACKSON PARISH, La. (KNOE) - Jonesboro, Hodge, Quitman, North Hodge and East Hodge will be getting an upgrade to one gig of internet service from Optimum. A release from Optimum says due to a significant network and infrastructure upgrade, better services will be available to residents and businesses in these areas for the first time.
Deadline to request a School Choice Transfer nearing
The Jackson Parish School District (JPSD) announces that the deadline to request a transfer to the school of your choice is March 28th. Jackson Parish is an open enrollment school district, but students must attend the school in the attendance zone where they live unless the receiving school has an available seat, based on a teacher to student ratio, in the students’ grade.
Prep baseball: Locals have tough weekend
For the three Jackson Parish High School baseball teams this past weekend was a tough one as the three local schools went a combined 1-6 in games played. Quitman High, now with a 4-9 record, experienced the lone victory with a 4-3 win over Division III Many High in their second game of three games played in the Northwood Tournament. The Wolverines won it by scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game and adding a run in the bottom of the 7th to win it. In the first game, the Wolverines fell 7-0 to Class 5A Haughton and dropped an 11-1 contest to host Northwood in the tourney final.
Grant Parish School Board adopts change to school week
GRANT PARISH, La. (KALB) - The Grant Parish School Board has voted to adopt a four-day school week for the 2023-2024 school year. After a five to three vote, students, teachers and faculty in the parish can say goodbye to school on Mondays and look forward to three-day weekends. The new plan will cut the days in school from 171 to 155, and also add 30 minutes to each day to make up the difference.
