Flood advisory issued for north, windward Kaua’i
A flood advisory is in effect until 4:15 p.m. today for portions of Kauaʻi. Just after 1 p.m., National Weather Service radar indicated heavy rain over north and windward Kauaʻi. The heaviest rain was over Kapahi, falling at just more than 2 inches per hour. These showers are slowly moving north, and additional showers are expected through the afternoon.

Brown Water Advisory issued at Kalapaki Beach
The state Department of Health has issued a Brown Water Advisory at Nawiliwili Bay and Kalapaki Beach in Lihuʻe. “Heavy rain has resulted in stormwater runoff entering into coastal waters. The public is advised to stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewer, manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals, and associated flood debris,” the department said.

Drug overdose deaths up in Maui County, Kauai as fentanyl use grows
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii saw another rise in fatal overdoses last year — fueled by the increase use of fentanyl. Preliminary data from the state’s High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas program show an alarming jump in deaths in Maui County in 2023. Gary Yabuta, of Hawaii HIDTA, said the figures on Maui were steady throughout the year and did not spike after the August wildfires.
