SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – A Shreveport student made waves Tuesday as the youngest competitor in the 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee. Sanil Thorat, age 8, is a 3rd grade student at Fairfield Elementary Magnet School. Two hundred and forty-five spellers from across the country qualified for this year’s spelling bee. He is one of five Louisiana students to make it to the quarterfinals, and the only competitor from northwest Louisiana.
