On May 30, Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle after observing the driver, later identified as 42-year-old Daniel Lemaire, not wearing a seat belt.

In a June 2 letter, the American Civil Liberties Union of Hawaiʻi said a homeless sweep on May 24 in Kona violated the people’s constitutional rights and demanded Hawaiʻi County stop future enforcement operations until it could provide shelter or a safe area for all houseless individuals.

Hawai‘i Island police arrested and charged 30-year-old Terran Kaleiwahea Jr., of Mountain View with various property and drug-related offenses after fleeing from police. Hawaiʻi County Police identified 82-year-old Stuart S. Dunn as the elderly Kailua-Kona man who died following a single bicycle crash in North Kona. On May 21, responding police officers determined that a silver Dean Titanium Road bicycle was heading west on Hinalani Street on the right shoulder and crashed. Dunn was transported to the Kona Community Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

On Monday evening, a tourist drove her SUV down the boat ramp into the water at Honokohau Small Boat Harbor in Kailua-Kona while following GPS directions. The female tourist and sole occupant of the vehicle, was uninjured and able to get out safely. The vehicle was later removed from the water.
