Carson Wentz left a phenomenal first impression on Chiefs TE Travis Kelce during OTAs

Could Carson Wentz become one of the best backup quarterbacks the Kansas City Chiefs will have in the Patrick Mahomes era? He certainly has the pedigree already , but he's got off to a hot start at OTAs and is making a phenomenal first impression on at least one of his teammates.
Speaking with his brother, Jason Kelce, on the latest "New Heights Show" podcast, Chiefs TE Travis Kelce spoke about what he's seen from the newest backup quarterback in Chiefs Kingdom.
"Me and Carson (Wentz), Pat (Mahomes) all went out and played some golf and just got to get to know him a little bit more," Travis told Jason. "And he's gonna be a great addition to the locker room, to this team. He's a very motivated, very locked-in competitor. And you can tell by the way he carries himself that he's gonna be ready if his number is ever called."
It's good to hear that vote of confidence from Travis, especially after the Chiefs have needed to rely on veteran backups like Matt Moore (2019) and Chad Henne (2020, 2021, 2022). Wentz certainly has plenty of experience playing and starting in big games as the former No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft. Both Jason and Travis agree that being in Kansas City with Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes will only help Wentz take his game to the next level.
"I'm excited for him just because I feel like Andy (Reid) is the quarterback whisperer man he finds a way to maximize that position no matter who's there," Jason said.
"Honestly, man, seeing him sling the ball around you can see how good he is and how he's had an unbelievable amount of success in the NFL," Travis said. "And I think him learning under Coach Reid and seeing how Pat does things on the football field, I think he can not only fit in and take his game to another level, man, but really help this team out in the long run."
Carson Wentz dicing up the competition at Chiefs OTAs
Wentz has worked exclusively with the second-team offense at OTAs, and so far he's been dicing up the competition according to Kelce.
"Carson (Wentz), he's absolutely killing it, man," Travis said. "He's dicing them up every time he goes out there. He's throwing bombs and throwing lasers, man. He's got all the attributes and you can see it when he's out there on the practice field, for sure."
Kelce saw Wentz work at OTAs on Monday, but he wasn't present for Wednesday's practice session. It seems that some of those bombs and lasers carried over with Chiefs HC Andy Reid working to jumpstart the deep passing game.
