Ants in sugar. Flies in food. South Florida restaurant inspection issues
Active flies and erratic handwashing were some of the most consistent problems among the dirty dozen South Florida restaurants comprising this week’s Sick and Shut Down List. The 12 restaurants represent Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Monroe once again got off cleanly. Weekly reminder: We don’t do the inspections, and we don’t choose who gets inspected. Both of those are done by the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation, although some inspections spawn from customer complaints. Those can be filed through the DBPR website . Restaurants that fail inspection are closed until they pass a reinspection, also called a “callback inspection.” In alphabetical order... Bonfire Mofongo House and Lounge, 1704 NW Seventh St., Miami Routine inspection, 31 total violations, six High Priority violations This used to be The Batting Cage, a sports bar opened in 2012 with the hope that a new Marlins Park would provide the funds ownership would use to field a competitive team that would bring fans who might want to hang out before or after games. Now, this building has been transformed into a restaurant and club where the inspector found an “accumulation of black/green mold-like substance in the interior of the ice machine/bin.”
