Car into utility pole, Joplin Police locate driver a block away

JOPLIN, Mo. (KOAM) — About 10:45 p.m. Tuesday night reports of a single vehicle crash at 4th and Highland Ave alerted Joplin E-911.

As we arrived on scene we observed a Dodge Challenger had struck a utility pole on the NW corner of the intersection.

The male driver was not injured and had left on foot to the south where officers located him and were performing field sobriety testing at 5th and Highland Ave.

Metro Towing removed the crashed vehicle and debris that scattered the road and a yard on the corner. The car was totaled.

Joplin officers were contacting Liberty Utilities to check the status of the pole.

The roadway returned to normal traffic in about 65 minutes.
