Jonesville competes at the Ralph Rice Invitational, boys take fifth overall

HILLSDALE COUNTY — The Jonesville track and field program brought home one first place honor on Friday night when the Comets competed against multiple Cascades conference teams at the Ralph Rice invitational. The boys team took fifth overall with a score of 63. The girls team took eighth with a 34.5-point total.

The Jonesville boys team had a strong showing in the relay events, with the team of Nicholas Fowler, David Fowler, Gavin Van Kampen and Carter Rounds earning first in the 4x400 with a time of 3:32.16. The 4x200 team of Nicholas Fowler, Carter Rounds, Ryan Marcavage and Jordan VanSickle took third with a time of 1:36.01.

The 4x800 team of Nicholas Fowler, David Fowler, Van Kampen and Rounds, after a few strong showings already this season, came in third with a time of 8:27.91. The 4x100 team of Jaren Trujillo, Makinlee Packer, Marcavage and VanSickle took fifth with a time of 45.71.

Ryan Marcavage took 11th in the 100-meter with a 11.98. VanSickle had a top five finish in the 200 with a time of 24.52 seconds. Donovan Baker had a PR time of 26.68 to take 16th. In the 400, Nicholas Fowler (52.39) and Rounds (53.33) took third and fifth, respectively, both earning personal record times. Van Kampen took fourth (2:02.75) in the 800. David Fowler took 11th in the 400 with a time of 55.07.

Blonde earned seventh (4:42.84) in the 1600 and fourth (10:13.34) in the 3200 in a real endurance test for the freshman. Teammate Collin Fucille took seventh in the 3200 with a time of 10:42.41. Both athletes earned personal record 3200 times.

In the hurdles, Reece Rundquist took 10th in the 110 (18.55) and Nathan More took eighth (46.68) in the 300.

Leading the charge in the field events was junior Scott Aube with a throw of 44-feet, 5 inches in the shot put, earning a PR and fifth. Cooper Stevens took 15th with a throw of 36-feet, 1 inch. Packer earned sixth in the pole vault with a clearance height of 10-feet, 3 inches. Teammate Skyler Cooper took 12th with a height of 8-feet, six inches (a PR).

In long jump, Trujillo had a jump distance of 18-feet, 8 1/4 inches.

In discus, senior Isaac Shively led the way with a 12th place finish and a throw of 101-feet, three inches. Cooper Stevens took 13th with a 101-feet throw.

The girls track team was led by senior Brooke Sharp who took sixth (28.75) in the 200 and fourth (1:05.32) in the 400-meter dash. Payton Nichelson took 10th in the 200 with a time of 29.44. Kendahl Drake took 15th in the 800 with a time of 1:05.32, a new PR.

In the hurdles, Amelia Means and Hallie James were separated by tenths of a second. Means took 14th with a time of 21.56 and James took 16th with a 22.20. Means took 12th in the 300 race with a time of 1:01.04. Hallie James took 13th with a 1:03.04 and Harper James took 14th with a 1:04.22.

Distance runner Keira Knight (14:19.5) earned a new PR time to take eighth in a challenging group of runners during the 3200. Julia Mandrelle took 14th in the 1600 with a time of 6:53.31.

The 4x100 relay team of Zoey Udzik, Ameilia Means, Harper James and Miley Dunlap took ninth with a time of 59.67.

The team of Zoey Udzik, Miley Dunlap, Payton Nichelson and Brooke Sharp took third overall in the 4x200 with a time of 1:56.33. The 4x400 team of Udzik, Sierra Winter, Nichelson and Sharp took seventh with a time of 4:49.64. The 4x800 team of Kendahl Drake, Keira Knight, Silvia Blackham and Joeleane Gulledge took sixth with a time of 12:04.80.

Over in the shot put competition, freshman Megan Lee took third overall with a final throw of 30-feet, 7 inches. Teammate and senior Sarah Alspaugh took sixth with a PR throw of 29-feet, 6 inches. Elaina VanBuskirk took fifth in the discus event with a throw of 76-feet, 7 inches. Teammate Maria Mandrelle took 12th with a throw of 66-feet, 4 inches. Nichelson took sixth in high jump with a final distance of 4-feet, 7 inches.

Jonesville will host its second Cascades dual of the season when it hosts Columbia Central on Tuesday at 4 p.m.. It will not have an invitational next weekend.
