Memorial Day events happening across central Alabama
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Several areas across central Alabama are hosting Memorial Day events Monday to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The 16th annual Memorial Day Observance at the Alabama National Cemetery is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. The observance will have a guest speaker, a wreath laying, and more. Update: The current severe thunderstorm warning will be expiring at 2:45 a.m.
The warning was for Colbert, Franklin and Lauderdale counties. "The storms which prompted the warning have weakened below severe limits, and no longer pose an immediate threat to life or property. Therefore, the warning will be allowed to expire. A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 8 a.m. for north central and northwestern Alabama," states the National Weather Service.
More severe weather possible Monday in Alabama; severe thunderstorm watch in effect
The Memorial Day holiday has been on the stormy side for many Alabamians, and a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for part of the state. The watch will be in effect until 9 p.m. CDT for Barbour, Bullock, Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston, Lee, Macon, Pike and Russell counties in southeast Alabama:
