From new and classic cars, trucks, hot rods and 4X4s, the 2nd annual Down on Main Street Custom Car and Truck Show kicks off Saturday in downtown Jennings.

With over 60 different vehicles, organizer Dwayne Brown  said there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

“We had 60-plus last year and we are hoping for about the same, if not more this year since it will be our second event,” Brown said.

The car show is being held in conjunction with the open-air Main Street Market, featuring dozens of craft and food vendors. There will also be a DJ providing music.

Spectators can attend both events free.

Craft and food vendors will line Main Street with the vehicles on display from near Founder’s Park to the Heywood Building.

Vehicle registration is open 8 – 10 a.m. under the tents near the Jeff Davis Bank on Main Street. Registration is $30 per vehicle.

Proceeds from the registration will help local schools and other organizations and help sponsor future events.

Four-wheel drive trucks, jeeps, custom older trucks, Mustangs, Corvettes, modern and older muscle cars and custom trucks  are expected from throughout Southwest Louisiana and Texas.

“A lot of people take pride in their vehicles and just want to show them off,” Brown said. “A lot of times for the spectators it can be a time to reminisce about a vehicle their parents had, or something they had back in high school.”

Judging will begin at 11 a.m. with an awards presentation to follow in Founder’s Park. There will be Top 25 awards, Best of Show and three speciality awards.

“This is always a big show for us because I just think people like the historic Main Street area and can enjoy all the craft and food booths,” Brown said. “It is also a family oriented event that the whole family can enjoy.”

Plans are already under way for next year’s event, he said.
