Rio Rancho K9 officers get new ballistic vests
The Rio Rancho Police Department announced Thursday that K9 officers Nigel and Chance were given brand-new, dog-tailored ballistic vests by a national charity that was founded by an 8-year-old. Brady’s K9 Fund donated the ballistic vests for the department's four-legged officers.

APD and RRPD SWATs team up in RR arrest of juvenile
A suspect in a firearm incident in Downtown Albuquerque was arrested at his home in Rio Rancho April 30 by a combination effort of Albuquerque SWAT and Rio Rancho SWAT. "Our detectives were investigating a juvenile who threatened several individuals with a firearm outside a charter school in downtown Albuquerque earlier in April. Detectives coordinated with APD SWAT, Rio Rancho PD and Rio Rancho SWAT to arrest the suspect for his warrant outside his home in Rio Rancho. He was booked at JDC. Detectives executed a warrant on the residence and seized fentanyl, firearms parts, ammunition and cellphones. A search warrant will be executed on the vehicle to seize his firearm," APD SWAT reported.

Fulltime Substitute Teacher Cowboy Jim, originally named James V. Hogue, was renamed by Los Alamos High School Auto Shop Teacher Scott Pomeroy because of his Western attire. Cowboy Jim was born in Mosca, Colo., and moved with his family to Dallas, Texas where his parents bought 50 acres of farmland. He lived there from 2nd until 11th grade. After that, he moved to Missouri and went to college at Missouri State University. Cowboy Jim then migrated to Chama where he worked with some Cajuns and learned how they talk. He also worked at Lufkin Zoo in Lufkin, Texas for 10 years.
