Healthcare worker accused of stealing medication from a patient in Jefferson City

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. (WATE) — A healthcare worker from Morristown has been accused of stealing pain medication from a patient’s home, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the patient’s home on April 24 because of a report of medication theft. The sheriff’s office said the patient stated she had noticed she was short on her medication count for some time, and after she spoke with her pharmacy, she decided to install cameras inside her home where she kept her medication.

The victim told deputies that her nurse, Sally Hensley, 47, of Morristown, had been at her home for a scheduled visit that morning, and after Hensley left, she discovered her prescription for hydrocodone which had approximately 15 pills was missing.

According to the sheriff’s office, the family reviewed the footage from the cameras and discovered the nurse had opened the bottle of pills and placed the pills in her pocket.

The sheriff’s office contacted Hensley, who went to the sheriff’s office where she was placed under arrest on charges of theft, burglary, and neglect of an elderly or vulnerable adult.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said it fears that this was not an isolated event and that any patient who has had similar circumstances with Hensley is asked to contact Sgt. Jonathan Owens 866-397-9411 ext 1106.
