Cardiology Associates Adds Apex Cardiovascular Imaging System
Cardiology Associates has expanded access to advanced cardiovascular imaging with the addition of a GE HealthCare Revolution Apex computed tomography (CT) upgrade in Mobile, strengthening the practice’s ability to provide fast, detailed cardiac imaging for patients across the Gulf Coast. For patients, the new system is designed to support clearer images of the heart and blood vessels; faster scan times; and high-quality imaging, even in more challenging cases, including for patients with higher heart rates, irregular rhythms or significant coronary calcium. The platform’s high-definition imaging can also improve visualization of coronary arteries and other vascular structures, helping physicians evaluate narrowing and other cardiovascular concerns with greater detail. The upgrade follows another major imaging milestone for the practice: becoming the first private cardiology practice in the U.S. to install GE HealthCare’s Revolution Vibe CT in Fairhope earlier this year. The Revolution Apex platform is also designed to help reduce motion-related image problems and support efficient cardiac exams, which can be especially helpful for patients who may have difficulty holding their breath or maintaining a steady heart rhythm during a scan.

USA Health Performs System-First Barostim Procedure
USA Health University Hospital has performed its first Barostim implant procedure, providing a new treatment option to relieve symptoms in patients living with heart failure. Dr. W. Johnson Hardy, III, a fellowship-trained vascular surgeon at USA Health, performed the procedure at USA Health University Hospital. The procedure involved implanting a small device beneath the skin of the patient’s chest and neck to help manage symptoms associated with symptomatic systolic heart failure. Unlike other heart failure device therapies, Barostim contains no hardware in the heart or blood vessels. It works by electrically stimulating special receptors that tell the nervous system how to regulate heart, kidney and vascular function. Together, these effects reduce the heart’s workload and help it pump more efficiently, helping restore balance to the autonomic nervous system and improve the symptoms of heart failure. Barostim plus heart failure medications have been shown to improve activity level and quality of life.

New Orleans doctor allegedly used Medicaid fraud proceeds on yacht
(The Center Square) − A New Orleans doctor accused of submitting at least $5.9 million in false Medicare and Medicaid claims allegedly used health care payments to cover fuel and a captain’s salary for his yacht in Biloxi, Mississippi, according to a federal indictment. Dr. Christopher K. Whipple also allegedly used the money to finance a 2025 Ford Explorer and pay other personal expenses while operating what prosecutors describe as a yearslong health care fraud scheme. Medicare and Medicaid paid at least $800,000 on the allegedly fraudulent claims, according to the indictment. Whipple was indicted June 22 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana on two counts of health care fraud. The New Orleans physician owned and operated Trompe Couillon Adventures LLC and Prestige Medical Staffing and Marketing, while Trompe employed doctors and other medical providers who treated patients in nursing homes and other facilities. Federal prosecutors allege Whipple used those providers — and sometimes his own name — to bill Medicare, Medicaid and private insurer Humana for care that was never provided or was falsely represented. The scheme allegedly began around January 2020. Prosecutors said Whipple controlled Trompe’s billing systems and retained access to claims

Alabama’s Only Children’s Hospital in the Gulf Coast Region Is 20 Days From Going Out of Network With UnitedHealthcare
Most of the attention around the USA Health and UnitedHealthcare contract dispute has focused on the September 30 deadline. But the real story started earlier. USA Health Providence Hospital went out of network with commercial UnitedHealthcare plans on November 15, 2025. Nearly ten months ago. The patients who used Providence with UHC commercial insurance have already lived through what out-of-network means in practice — higher bills, unexpected costs, difficult decisions about where to go for care.
