Four student-athletes from Janesville — one boy and one girl from each of the city’s high schools — were named WIAA Scholar Athletes for 2024, the schools’ activities directors announced Tuesday.

Senior Lily Campbell is Craig’s girls scholar athlete. She earned three varsity letters in all four of her years at Craig High in volleyball, basketball and soccer. She has a 3.7 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society and was selected as team captain in volleyball and basketball as a senior. She earned all-conference recognition from the Big Eight in all three of her sports. Campbell will attend Winona State University in Minnesota, where she plans to study criminal justice.

Charlie Simmons, a senior, is Parker’s girls scholar athlete. She’s a two-year letter winner in volleyball, three-year letter winner in basketball and three-year letter winner in soccer. Her other extracurricular activities include Science National Honor Society, National Honor Society, Link Crew and DECA. She recently qualified for the International DECA Conference to be held in Anaheim, California, later this week.

Craig senior Bryce Sullivan is the boys scholar athlete from his school. He won seven varsity letters in golf and hockey and compiled a 3.976 GPA. He was team MVP for the Janesville Bluebirds for the 2023-24 season and earned all-Big Eight recognition for his play on the ice. He also earned all-conference honors as a golfer last spring. He plans to attend Minnesota State-Mankato to pursue a career as a pilot.

Cayden Brandenburg is the boys scholar athlete for Parker. He is a three-year track letter winner, a four-year wrestling letter winner and a three-year football letter winner. In addition to several all-conference, team MVP and captain honors, he was a three-time state wrestling qualifier and ran in the state track and field meet in 2023. He’s on track to compete in La Crosse again this spring.

Brandenburg also was selected as one of 32 finalists for WIAA 2024 State Scholar Recognition. Only two Janesville athletes had previously been a finalist for this award: Michele Burkholder of Parker in 1994 and Alyx Stalheim, also of Parker, in 2002 (Stalheim is Brandenburg’s stepmother). Brandenburg will represent Parker at the WIAA state banquet on May 5.
