JANESVILLE, Wis. -- Janesville's Roosevelt Elementary School will have a new leader next school year who has spent decades working in education in Rock County.

The School District of Janesville Board of Education on Tuesday named Kelly Kaminski as the school's new principal. She currently works as the assistant principal at Robinson Elementary School in Beloit.

"Ms. Kaminski has a strong record of educational leadership focused on academics and is compassionate with students, parents, and staff," Janesville Superintendent Mark Holzman said. "She has a long history of building successful relationships with students and families within the community she serves, and we are excited to have her join the School District of Janesville."

Kaminski earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Valparaiso University in 1992 and a Master of Science in School Counseling from UW-Whitewater in 1999.

She started out as a second-grade teacher at Converse Elementary School in Beloit. She has also worked as a Home Bound/Alt Placement teacher and as a substitute teacher. She was a school counselor in the Clinton Community School District from 2009 to 2020 and also served as the district's summer school principal from 2019 to 2020.

SJD administrators said Kaminski was selected out of 20 applicants. She will begin work on a one-year contract starting July 1. She is set to work 260 days per contract year and will earn a total salary of $113,500 for the upcoming school year.
