Pacific Surfliner Goes Dark Sept. 12-13, Stranding Riders From LA to San Diego
Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner will stop running entirely between San Diego and San Luis Obispo on September 12 and 13, cutting off the second-busiest passenger rail route in the country during one of its most heavily traveled stretches of the year. Riders hoping to get from Los Angeles to Orange County, San Diego, or the Central Coast that weekend will need to make other arrangements, since no bus bridges will replace the canceled trains.

California Department of Transportation announces improvements to the Games Route Network for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Time sure flies when the news cycle is filled with new and fresh hells every day, doesn't it? At this rate it seems like the 2028 Olympic Games will be here before we know it, and it's taking place in sunny Los Angeles, California. Aside from its arid weather, Los Angeles is famous for many other reasons, including its car-centric nature and notoriously congested roads, neither of which bode especially well for a global influx of athletes, coaches, and spectators. To address those concerns, the California Department of Transportation, or Caltrans, announced a slew of improvements to the Games Route Network or GRN, including a camera-enforced, permit-only nearly 360-mile roadway network for Olympic and Paralympic athletes, coaches, and other staff organizers.

Waymo is now providing public rides in 14 cities, with its service launch in Denver, San Diego, and Tampa on Tuesday.
