Jackson County (West Virginia) man sentenced for sexual assault and sexual abuse
RIPLEY, W.Va. (WV News) — A Jackson County man received the maximum sentence for sexual assault and sexual abuse at his sentencing on May 20. Appearing before Fifth Circuit Court Judge Lora Dyer, Thomas Earl Layton, 53, of Ripley, was sentenced to one to three years for each of three counts of sexual assault in the 3rd degree and one to two years for one count of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian or person in a position of trust. The felony sexual assault terms will be served consecutively, while the sexual abuse runs concurrently. Layton will serve a minimum of three years and a maximum of 15 years.
