Contributed photos Each week, the Jacksboro Herald-Gazette will recognize one athlete from each Jack County school as the Herald’s Athletes of the Week. The Herald’s Athletes of the Week are Kasey Ray Swan, of Jacksboro, Justin Blackman and Joel Jones, of Perrin, and Jaydah McComack, of Bryson. Kasey Ray Swan, JHS The Tiger senior tossed what was thought to be the school’s first perfect game in a 10-0 win Friday over City View. He struck out 12 and threw just 69 pitches (44 for strikes) in the five inning contest which kept Jacksboro perfect in District 7-3A. Swan said he was throwing his curveball for more strikes than his fastball. He said having his brother Kyler catch his perfect game was great. “It was amazing,” Swan said. “It was such a cool moment. Like the greatest feeling ever.” Justin Blackman and Joel Jones, PWHS Both powerlifters competed at the state meet last weekend. Jones finished 13th in the 123-pound class. He squatted 320 pounds, bench pressed 180 and dead lifted 370 for a combined lift of 870 pounds. At regionals in Decatur, Blackman set records in the Superheavyweight Division, breaking the squat record with a 470-pound lift, breaking the old record by 45 pounds, the deadlift with a 450-pound lift (old record 400) and the overall record at 1,175 pounds (old record at 1,140). At the state meet in Abilene, Blackman squatted 430 pounds, bench pressed 240 and dead lifted 420 for a combined 1,090 pounds. Jaydah McComack, BHS The freshman track athlete won three events and compiled 40 points in helping the Cowgirls finish third Wednesday, March 20 at the Chico Meet. She had personal bests in winning the triple jump with a 31’11” leap and the high jump with a 4’10” effort. She also won the 400-meters with a time of 1:09.57. McComack was also 3rd in the 100-meters and 4th in the 200-meters to cap off the day.
