No. 3 Argyle's QB was ruled ineligible. This sophomore stepped up and thrived
Argyle entered a district game against Colleyville Heritage without a crucial starter. Quarterback Hayes Hackney had been ruled ineligible Tuesday by the 3-5A Division II District Executive Committee. But the Eagles, ranked No. 3 in the state , didn’t miss a beat with sophomore QB Cobe Wilson, who stepped up and led them to a 45-35 victory that secured the district title Friday at Argyle ISD Stadium. Wilson passed for 218 yards with 3 touchdowns, completing 16 of 22 passes. He had completed four passes this season before suddenly taking over the starting role. He said he was nervous before the game, but after the first play, the nerves faded away, and he trusted his preparation and training. “The opportunities he’s been given, he’s taken advantage of it,” Argyle head coach Todd Rodgers said. “He’s a good player. He gets practice all the time. He just hadn’t got much playing time in games this year, but it’s obvious he’s a pretty good player.” When asked about challenges Hackney’s eligibility created for the team, Rodgers referred to the team’s next man up mentality. “We deal with injuries all the time during high school football,” Rodgers said. “You’re going to ask another

North Texas football team banned from playoffs due to use of ineligible players
Blue Ridge football has been banned from the University Interscholastic League playoffs for the use of multiple ineligible players, a 7-3A Division II district executive committee member confirmed to the Star-Telegram. The DEC member sent the Star-Telegram the following statement: “The DEC determined that the coach violated multiple sections of the UIL Constitution and Contest Rules in an attempt to gain a competitive advantage and played 6 ineligible players.” The DEC voted unanimously to ban Blue Ridge from the postseason, issue forfeits for games ineligible players played in and issued a formal reprimand and one year of probation. None of Blue Ridge’s games will count in the district standings. For the other teams in the district, games against Blue Ridge are essentially non-district contests. Blue Ridge ISD placed head coach and athletic director Jason Russell on leave on Oct. 5 when it initially discovered eligibility issues. Colton Croley is serving as interim head football coach, while Joel Zuniga is the interim athletic director. The DEC ruled Russell will receive an official reprimand and will also refer the matter to the UIL state executive committee with a recommendation for additional penalties. “The DEC had the authority to impose penalties of up

Texas high school QB reinstated after stunning UIL reversal
After being ruled ineligible for the rest of his junior season on Sept. 25, Lewisville (TX) quarterback Laykon Brassfield received much better news Thursday in a shocking move by the University Interscholastic League. Brassfield's eligibility was granted by a unanimous 6-0 vote from the UIL executive committee , according to a report from Greg Riddle of The Dallas Morning News. The 5-6A district executive committee originally voted 7-0 against Brassfield in September, at a meeting held over a dual-residency issue. That committee then ruled that Brassfield's residence did not meet the UIL's residency criteria for Lewisville High School or Lewisville ISD. The report noted that the original DEC meeting was held because Brassfield's parents had been associated with an apartment in Lewisville and a lease in Argyle. Brassfield's grandfather, Richard Brassfield, resides at the Argyle home, and his parents helped with the lease so he would qualify. That address was used to enroll his younger siblings in Argyle ISD, but it is not the main residence they have lived at since moving to Texas. 10’s BACK 🤫 pic.twitter.com/X0J5TVDqtC — Laykon Brassfield (@LaykonBrass10) October 22, 2026 On the Argyle lease, Laykon's name had been removed as an occupant, but DEC did

Here's the kicker: Plano coach receives surprise visit from Dallas Cowboy Brandon Aubrey
Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey made a special trip home to Plano, surprising head boys soccer coach Tex McCullough with a check for $5,000. McCullough was named the winner of Dallas Cowboys Class Acts Award and grant, Oct. 20. Aubrey, a 2013 Plano Senior High School graduate, surprised McCullough in person at an indoor gym on campus. The pair then walked the halls reliving old memories. “I wouldn't say I feel like a high schooler again, but things have changed a lot,” Aubrey said. “It's cool to see just how many resources have been put into the school. I think it shows how much the community cares about the kids and wants them to have nice things and have a safe place to learn sports.” Aubrey said his time at Plano Senior High was formative and was the place where he learned he had a professional future in sports. Playing soccer with friends in the old indoor facility renewed his love for the game and pushed him to go further. The wide academic avenues also enabled him to seek out higher education leading him to play soccer and earn a degree in computer science at the University of Notre Dame
