OPINION: Moon is out if new GOP team has its way
If Dorothy Moon wins another term as chair of the Idaho Republican Party, it will be without the help of Bonneville County Republicans. That’s because the central committee’s leadership team was thrown out on primary election night and a new slate of officers will move in after reorganization this week. The immediate focus of the new leadership team will be to restore peace and harmony to the central committee. In mid-June, during the state party’s convention in Coeur d’Alene, the group will be leading the charge to remove Moon as the GOP’s leader. At least one state representative thinks that a change is inevitable.
Prosecutor asks to combine trials for two men accused in Ririe rest stop murder case
RIRIE — Bonneville County Prosecutor Randy Neal has asked for two trials to be combined in the case of 36-year-old Morey Pelton’s alleged murder. Randy Larkin, 59, was indicted on July 14, 2022, on one count of first-degree murder in the case. Gerald Hamlin, 61, was indicted on Feb. 8, 2024, on one count of principal to first-degree murder, one count of accessory to first-degree murder, and one count of destruction, alteration, or concealment of evidence.
Jackson aggressively addresses its housing crisis; lawmakers see how this applies to state
CHEYENNE — County and city officials insisted on Thursday that the issue of affordable housing can only be regulated at the local level. A running joke during the Legislature’s Regulation Reduction Task Force meeting in Jackson was that Teton County was its own state. Jackson resident Taylor Phillips said he was on a fishing trip when he told a person he encountered where he lived. The person told him, “Oh, you ought to move to Wyoming one day.”
Grizzly Bear Spotted in Rafter J
With reports of a grizzly bear wandering near the Rafter J Neighborhood this weekend, Wildlife officials are reminding residents to increase their efforts to be Bear Aware. On Sunday morning a grizzly was photographed south of town. Game and Fish officials responded to the reports but it is unknown what became of the bear.
