Driver arrested April 21 near Baker City crashed into car driven by Baker High graduate 2 days earlier in Hermiston
Ashlie Thacker never saw the car that slammed into the passenger side of the Ford Bronco Sport she was driving. As she sat in the four-door SUV, which was lying on the driver’s side in an intersection in a Hermiston neighborhood on April 19, Thacker, 24, was thinking of her son, David, who’s 2 1/2, and her husband, Jon.
Confederate Tribes of Umatilla Indian Reservation executive director resigns
The top employee for the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation is stepping down. The tribes announced that the CTUIR Board of Trustees voted Monday to accept executive director Don Sampson’s resignation effective May 10, ending his second stint as the administrative head of the government for the Umatilla, Cayuse and Walla Walla tribes.
Umatilla School district announces new high school leadership
UMATILLA – The Umatilla School District has a new leadership team in place at the high school. After Principal Bob Lorence, Vice Principal April Dirksen, and Office Manager Debbie Tesch announced their retirements at the end of this school year, the district was left with the task of filling those key roles.
Umatilla man charged in Irrigon kidnapping
HEPPNER – Casey Loyd Bailey, 47, of Umatilla has been charged in the kidnapping of an Irrigon woman. Morrow County District Attorney Justin Nelson is charging Bailey with the kidnapping of the woman from her home and other crimes last week. His bail has been set at $200,000 and his next court appearance will be May 3 before Sixth Circuit Court Judge Jon Lieuallen.
TRCI Inmate Dies
An Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) adult in custody, Richard L. Kerns, died the morning of April 25. Kerns was incarcerated at Two Rivers Correctional Institution (TRCI) in Umatilla and passed away at the institution. As with all in-custody deaths, the Oregon State Police have been notified, and the State Medical Examiner will determine cause of death.
Hatrock Hounds Annual Rock & Gem Show Set for May 10-12 at EOTEC
The Hatrockhounds Gem and Mineral Society will host their annual rock and gem show on May 10-12 at Eastern Oregon Trade and Event Center, 1705 E. Airport Road in Hermiston. Along with gem and mineral displays, the family event includes a Kids’ Corner, silent auction, speakers and demonstrations, door prizes and food on site.
