Brandon Weatherz: Snow and rain tonight
A quick round off accumulating snow arrives this afternoon and tapers off tomorrow morning. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Koochiching Co. from 4 pm today until 7 am tomorrow where accumulation of around 6” is possible. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Cass, Itasca, St. Louis, and Carlton Co. over the same timeframe where 3-6” is expected. The North Shore of Lake and Cook Co. have the Winter Storm Warning from 4 pm today until 1 pm tomorrow where localized accumulation up to 8” is possible. Lake and Cook Co. away from the shore will see around 3”. Amounts drop off to around 1” moving south in east central Minnesota and across northwest Wisconsin.

Happy vernal equinox! Astronomical spring begins today as the sun crosses the equator. A cold front sweeping the Northland early this morning is paving the way for a cool start to the week with highs ranging from mid-20s to mid-30s. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy overall. Winds are breezy out of the northeast.
NWS updates spring flood outlook, with greater risk expected
The National Weather Service has released an update to their spring flood outlook, with no good news to share. Usually by the time we get to late March, we see a decrease in snow depth as snow begins to melt. This year, although there has been some snow melt, there has been more snowfall than snow melt, increasing snow depth.

Tonight will be partly cloudy with overnight lows in the twenties. Wednesday will begin dry, but precipitation chances return in the late afternoon. With highs in the upper 30s to low 40s, the precipitation type will be rain for the Twin Ports and areas south while northern Minnesota starts with mostly snow.
Brandon Weatherz: Cooling trend starts the week
After a beautiful and seasonable weekend, cooler air starts moving into the region today. Highs range from 27 near International Falls to 40 in Hayward. Cloud cover increases and isolated snow showers are possible in the afternoon and evening. A stretch of below average temps begins tonight as lows range from teens along the South Shore to minus single digits near and north of the Iron Range. Areas up north may dip below zero again tomorrow night and even Wednesday night. This cool stretch translates to highs in low 20s to low 30s tomorrow, and widespread highs in the 20s on Wednesday.

Woman injured when snowmobile hits ice ridge on Crane Lake
At around 8 p.m. Sunday, March 19th, first responders were alerted to a snowmobile accident that occurred on Crane Lake, Minnesota. 64-year-old Carole Scott of Crane Lake was driving her snowmobile in the southwest corner of Crane Lake when she struck an ice ridge causing her snowmobile to roll over.
HUD trying to help end homelessness in Northeastern Minnesota
The US department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), is giving a three-year grant, addressing rural homelessness in Northeastern MN. The Northeast Minnesota Continuum of Care is coordinating the homelessness response in six different counties. These counties are Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching and Lake county. Also several reservations from the areas of Bois Forte, Fond du Lac, Leech Lake, and Grand Portage will receive funds.

An area of snow showers has brought slippery stretches over parts of north central Minnesota this morning. We’ll continue to look west near Aitkin, Grand Rapids, International Falls, and west of there for 1-3” today. Snow showers will try and graze the Twin Ports, Arrowhead, and the northwest corner of Wisconsin today and tonight. A breezy east wind develops today and continues each day through Sunday. This will allow for periods of light lake effect snow along the North Shore in this timeframe, and waves will be building.
