We've reached the end of the athletic part of the school year with only a few athletes still in action, so this will be the final opportunity to vote for Pocial Athlete of the Week until next fall.

But before you cast your final vote, it's time to give a shoutout to last week's winner. You voted and you chose Indio softball slugger Jaeda Diaz. Diaz has a desert-best 19 home runs for the year and she hit three of them in the postseason.

This week's winner is up to you. Read what the five candidates accomplished and then cast your vote in the poll at the bottom of this article at desertsun.com. The person with the most votes at noon on Saturday wil be declared the winner.

Here are this week's honorees in alphabetical order.

    Alfredo Avalos, Coachella Valley baseball

What he did: Avalos had two hits including a triple and scored a run in the Arabs' final game of the season, a narrow 5-3 loss to San Bernardino.

Kameron Hawkins, La Quinta track and field

What he did: Hawkins followed up his record-breaking performance at the Desert Empire League meet in the triple jump, with a leap of 45-feet, 4-inches at the CIF-SS meet, qualifying him for the Masters Meet.

Victoria Hyatt, Shadow Hills track and field

What she did: Hyatt capped her illustrious track and field career with a fifth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles at the CIF-SS Division 3 meet with a time of 47.08 seconds, which is also a school record.

    Malakai Lopez, Rancho Mirage baseball

What he did: Lopez was almost untouchable on the mound in the Rattlers' quarterfinal win. He gave up one hit and struck out 15 batters including the first nine of the game in Rancho Mirage's 3-0 win over Salesian. He also had a hit and scored one of the team's runs.

    Mason Montgomery, Palm Desert golf

What he did: Montgomery had the best round to lead the Aztecs to a CIF-SS Division 1 title with a 3-under-par 69. This senior's effort was one stroke away from being the individual medalist for the day.
